Alcoholism and drug abuse are a great cause of concern to not only those with an addiction but to their friends and family members as well. There are places to go for help in Iowa in the form of treatment centers for both, alcohol and drug rehabilitation, intervention programs and of course, addiction diagnosis. There are rehab facilities with dedicated professionals in place to provide the necessary care, treatment and support for you or your loved one.

We all know the end result of untreated alcoholism and/or drug abuse. Wreaking havoc on relationships, health and careers, a common end is imprisonment or premature death. One of the first stages on the road to addiction recovery is admitting that you, your family member or friend does in fact, need help. Quality of life is vastly improved for all concerned from the moment an abuser of alcohol seeks help or is introduced to a treatment program.

The need for yet more addiction recovery centers, drug and alcohol treatment facilities is evidenced by the statistics for Iowa from 2005. An estimated 218,000 people were known to have an alcohol dependency but incredibly, an estimated 209,000 of these did not receive required treatment. The same statistics show that there were an estimated 57,000 individuals with drug abuse, addiction or dependency and that 52,000 of those did not receive help. While we have dedicated, hard working and caring professionals in our treatment facilities, these numbers are growing and directly affect everyone in all walks of life. With more instances of alcohol and drug abuse or addiction, crime rates and incidents of violence increase as well. With this in mind, having more people aware of the problem, more treatment facilities available and taking an active part in an abusers rehabilitation benefits all Iowa communities.

Substance Abuse Info

Alcoholism and drug addiction can be as devastating for the family and friends of the abuser or addict. Resentment, anger and a feeling of helplessness are common and while there are programs available to provide support, a drug or alcohol intervention may be the turning point for everyone concerned in order to get lives back on track. Many of those abusing alcohol or drugs have no idea that they have a problem at all or are so far into their addiction that they are incapable of requesting help themselves. The numbing comfort of their particular addiction is an easy choice for them. This is when the support of family and friends is paramount.
