Substance Abuse Resources
April 12, 2008

Finding substance abuse resources is not as difficult as it once might have been. For those who prefer the old-fashioned way of doing things, many counties have mental health programs or adult services that can help a person looking to overcome a substance abuse problem.
Sometimes a person may be searching for quick information that is available on the Internet. For those who are pressed for time and do not want to use Google or came here to find addiction treatment resources, a list of them has been compiled here.
Alcoholics Anonymous
The Alcoholics Anonymous web site can be found at www.alcoholics-anonymous.org. An Internet surfer can find information about the AA, its traditions, and a web surfer can find information about AA meeting held close to his home. The website is also available in Spanish or French
Addict-help.com
At www.addict-help.com a browser can find information on alcohol abuse and substance abuse as well as information on the damaging effects of many commonly used street drugs. The site lists a toll-free hotline for those who need help right away. An Internet user who uses a VOIP service like Skype can use the Firefox plug-in for the software to initiate a call to the centers of the service.
National Clearing House for Drug and Alcohol Information
This is a resource sponsored by the US government that contains information on substance abuse, dangers, and recovery. The website is http://ncadi.samsha.gov.
While this is by no means a comprehensive list of resources that are available for people looking for information on substance abuse, these web sites are some of the more helpful ones available.
